Energy efficiency in Transportation

Refrigerated Trailer Units are attached to trailers or vans to transport perishable products. Their compressor is powered by small diesel-powered engines and they use R134a refrigerant. We install 8 units in a 2.5 ton RTU, 12 units in a 5 ton RTU, and 16 units in rail car RTUs.

The increased efficiency results from installing IceCOLD® in refrigerated trailers may have the largest beneficial financial and environmental impact of any industry. Due to the cost of diesel fuel and the amount of carbon emission released from burning diesel fuel, the installation of IceCOLD® can immediately create an environmentally friendly marketing platform as well as reduce operational costs.

The typical results from installing IceCOLD® show a 20% to 30% reduction in diesel fuel consumption. The average payback is 6 months or less, depending on the amount the equipment is used. IceCOLD® is only installed one time and lasts for the life of the equipment. A reefer unit in operation for only 5 years after installing IceCOLD® could expect to achieve a 1000% ROI.

IceCOLD® Tests and Installations Have Achieved 20%+ Reduction in the Consumption of Diesel Fuel Used to Operate Refrigerated Trailer Units

The typical cost to treat a refrigeration trailer with IceCOLD® is $1,032.00. According to Thermo King, the most fuel efhcient RTU will consume .8 gallons of diesel per hour. In a typical 12 hour day a RTU will consume 9.6 gallons of fuel or 57.6 gallons in a 6 day work week. Assuming that the average price of diesel fuel is $4.00 per gallon this would equal a cost of $921.60 per month. A 20% reduction in fuel consumption would equal $184.32 savings per month or $2,211.84 per year. The payback on the one time investment would be less than 6 months.

For a 50 trailer fleet operating 24 hours a day the payback would be around 3 months. Total annual fuel saving would be around $221,184.00 for a one time cost of $51,600.00. This would equal a reduction of over 55,000 gallons of fuel consumption in one year.

Buming through a gallon of diesel fuel produces 22.2 pounds of CO2. By reducing annual fuel consumption of the RTU fleet by over 55,000 gallons, a company could reduce CO2 emissions by over 1.2 million pounds every year.

Installing IceCOLD® in 1,000 truck cab air conditioners, can save $660,000 in fuel costs, every year, for the life of the trucks. (Truck Life Estimated at 5 Years )

In-the-Cab Truck AC Systems

When IceCOLD® is installed, a truck running 100,000 miles a year at 6 MPG, on $4.00 diesel will save $660.00 a year in fuel. The cost to install one ounce of IceCOLD® is $150.00, with payback in 3 months.

• 16,667 gallons consumed = $66,660.
• 1% fuel savings = $660 per truck per year.
• 1000 trucks = $660,000 per year = 3 month payback.

In this example 3.7 million pounds of C02 will be saved every year, for the life of the refer compressors, for the entire 1000 lmck fleet.
